GAME DESCRIPTION
(From Operation 3DFX)
"This is not 3dfx news well it could be if Sega learns from their first lesson, what i am referring to is Sega's Rally 2 as Game Online revealed, it is set for March in the arcades, and here's some info i gathered:
The long-awaited follow-up is again the work of AM3 and Rally fans will be familiar with many of its aspects. Currently there are four cars; including the Lancia Stratos of Rally, a Corolla to replace the Celica from the original, an Escort Cosworth (shou ld please the Essex contingent) and a Subaru of some sort. There are four tracks being revealed at present, with a desert track looking like a Model 3 makeover of the first track from the original. There's also a town-based night-time track, that can make the most of the specular lighting effects employed.
Once again if Sega learnt well what happened to them, maybe they'll support it for Voodoo 2, we'll just have to wait and see, read the whole article at Game Online !"
More Game Info (From Electric Playground)
"The original Sega Rally was unquestionably the
very best racing game ever released for the Saturn. When it was released
for the PC, almost a year and half later, it was already stale; the engine
was chunky and failed to carve a superb satisfying niche for itself in
the rich field of PC racers. Sega Rally 2 hopes to change all that.
The gameplay engine has been rebuilt to create
some stunning hardware accelerated graphics. Lovely light sourcing, great
textures and none of the Saturn limitations should ensure that the game
is pleasing to even the most critical eye. Key to the game though, is the
fact that the game is an arcade racer on a platform that is geared towards
simulation based games. In this way Sega Rally Championship's only real
competition is Microprose's superb Ultim@te Race Pro.
New to the franchise are random weather effects, which change with the seasons and affect gamers' driving abilities. For example, rain will produce puddles on the tracks that continue to get bigger as the storm persists. These conditions affect drivers' speed and maneuverability, and can even make them fishtail around the track. Intense snow can build up on the road and players can skid on the ice. Even the glare from the bright sun can lead the best driver into problems.
The game will have seven different tracks, and numerous cars including the Corolla, Stratos, Impreza and the original, but hidden, Celica and Delta. Each of the cars can be modified for different gear ratio levels, suspension, handling and the like.
The game will also feature force feedback support and a number of racing modes such as 10-Year Championship, Time Attack, Arcade, VS Mode and Link Mode. Link mode will allow players to compete against up to 8 other players over a LAN or the Internet.
Sega Rally Championship 2 will be a unique racer
for PC players. Traditional Sega arcade fun on the PC is nothing to be
sneezed at, especially if you consider that you won't have to plug loads
of change into your PC to play near arcade quality. "
